Abstract or brief
introduction of the workshop
|
This workshop will give
an introduction to psychoanalytic
understanding of trauma and traumatisation.
The historical development of the trauma
concept within psychoanalysis and present
positions on the understanding of
traumatisation will be discussed. A new
model for understanding the traumatised
patient will be presented taking into
consideration the individual¡¯s relation to
others on a bodily-emotional level, to the
group and to culture.
On this background the frame, setting and
technique of psychoanalytic therapy with the
traumatised patient will be presented. It
will be underlined that psychoanalytic
therapy with the traumatised patient
addresses the whole personality and the
traumatising influences on cognitive and
emotional processes and the patient¡¯s
relations to others.
Trauma is inscribed in the procedural memory
and influences the way the traumatised
patient relates to others. The interpersonal
aspect of psychotherapy, transference and
countertransference processes will therefore
be a focus in treatment. Basic treatment
strategies will be presented: the
affirmative, the mentalising and the
interpretive strategies.
There will be case presentation.
Participants are encouraged to present cases
for supervision.
