Abstract or brief
introduction of the workshop
|
When a child becomes hurt ¨C physically and psychologically - by an accident, natural disaster, emotional abuse, loss of important caregivers or any other incident of violence, it may not be able to integrate the traumatic experience into its memory skills like adults can. The developing brain of a child is more susceptible to damage and neurochemical imbalances. Therefore a lot of traumatized children develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). When these symptoms are not treated early enough, explicitly considering the role of trauma in their genesis, it might influence the development of the child in a negative way and lifelong impairments may result. This workshop will enable participants to
- understand the role of trauma in child psychopathology
- understand the role of trauma in their own and the parent¡¯s childhood
- cooperate with parents in finding out their own resources in order to reduce the amount of traumatizing behaviour towards the child
- understand how to use this knowledge for their own stabilization
- improve stabilization work with children and adults
- improve their ability of attachment work with adults and children
- understand the difference of traumatic memory and normal memory
- understand EMDR ¨C a structured trauma-based therapy-with its wide applicability in treating the emotional
disorders of childhood.
This workshop is an approach to a better understanding of the ¡°real¡± children and our own ¡°inner¡± child and how we can learn to communicate with each other with less violence and much more love.
Experienced colleagues are just as welcome as newcomers.
Own cases for discussion are very welcome.
