Abstract or brief introduction of the workshop

Experiential Focusing (as developed by Eugene T. Gendlin,Ph.D.) is a way of being with our experience that directly connects us to the Felt Sense ¨C a bodily sense of the ¡®whole of something¡¯ (a problem, an experience, a direction, a wondering) that is already mind/body/spirit together. This sense is directly felt but there are no words yet. By paying attention to this ¡®something¡¯ felt in the body new information emerges that gives steps of change in the direction of greater aliveness. These steps of change include greater self-care and healing steps (Body), newly formed expressions of unique personal development (Mind), and a bodily felt opening into the edge that is the ¡®more¡¯, the ¡®larger consciousness¡¯, the energy of all life (Spirit). This Change Process is the result of having direct access to all dimensions of our humanity.

Focusing makes any method of psychotherapy work better and can be integrated into the way you are already working. Interacting with this bodily felt level opens up each method¡¯s potential.

This workshop will introduce you to the Focusing Process through experiential exercises. We will work in small groups to learn both how to engage in the focusing process for yourselves and how to accompany another person. You will learn how to identify process markers of experiential focusing and experience how steps of change are generated from the body. You will understand the importance of The Focusing Attitude and how focusing is applied to spiritual meaning and physical healing. Examples of how to integrate this process into other psychotherapy methods will be provided..
